Doesn’t Recommend Negative Outlook I worked at Suburban Lawn & Garden full-time (Less than a year) Pros I had some really nice co-workers. I enjoyed talking to customers about their gardening projects & I enjoyed taking care of the plants. It was also fun being outside. Cons Management was HORRIBLE! I was told by my manager that I should always call her, “Princess” (sadly this is not a joke). I got yelled at when I used my employee discount. My manager told me that I should not buy things from the company because I am not a “real customer”. If I did something wrong, my manager went around spreading rumors about me instead of professionally addressing an issue in private with me. The older women who worked there were always angry & yelling at me about making sure I had enough sunscreen on. These women always went on and on about how much skin cancer they had removed on their own faces. I do not know how them getting skin cancer was somehow my fault. There were some really nice people there, but there were also some extremely stuck up people there. There was always way too much drama at this company & you could never escape the drama no matter how hard you tried. I always heard all about how the owners were such nice people. Whenever the owners would visit our store, the managers tried to shield us from the owners as if the managers did not want us talking to the owners. Our store hosted corporate events where alcohol was involved. It was not fun being followed around by crazy drunk men who pretended that they wanted to talk to me about plants. It was pretty obvious by the way these men acted, that they really had inappropriate things on their minds. On days that they had these events, I usually went & hid in the bathroom for several minutes to get away from the drunk party perverts. Advice to Management Be a lot more professional & appreciative of ALL of your employees! Stop playing favorites & allowing so much drama to take place! Do not walk around with so much arrogance. People from all walks of life have skills to contribute to a company. Stop being so nosey! Do not worry so much about why someone wanted to work for your company & what may be going on in someone's personal life. Start each day saying, “Ok, what are we going to accomplish today as a team?” Stop hosting corporate events where alcohol is involved. The pretty young ladies who work there should not have to put up with so much sexual harassment while at work. Pros There are several areas at Suburban, that anyone can do a job. Receiving, cashiers, customer service, loading & management positions. Cons Don't kid yourself though, this place has some really bad issues & you should not consider working here under any circumstances. Favortism, lots of drama, management that does not care if you are there let alone a live or not, plus rude ownership, ie Matt Stueck. Advice to Management Sell out to someone who can operate your business & only attend monthly meetings to check on the businesses progress. Give your managers some credit.
